The Walrus and I

Location

We sat on a cornflake

Waiting for the van to come

The Walrus and I

He spoke harmoniously of things

His favorite things

Like fields of strawberries

Lucy in the sky

And rock Starrs

And then he stopped talking

And simply imagined

Although he was silent, I heard the whole thing

He took me across the universe

To the origin of it all

And showed me that we aren’t so different

The Walrus and I

He showed me his dreams

Of dying like her grandfather

But Ono, her father was killed

He fulfilled that dream one day

Dying like he

Who fathered her father

Before I became

And yet, here we sit

Together on a cornflake

The Walrus and I

We continued to speak

His round Potter glasses

Sitting in front of eyes

That gave peace a chance

Until Mark marked a mark

But, even at the walrus’ demise

Cranberry sauce

I buried Paul

I buried Paul

I BURIED PAUL

And even in death, the peaceful porpoise

Still shines on

Like the moon

And the stars

And the sun

If only we’d met,

The Walrus and I
