there are mornings when the cold light seeps through your bedroom window, pushing shadows of foliage across your white covers as you sleep. sometimes i wake up just as the leaves crawl over your face, kindly kissing your skin in the way i so desperately want to in every moment you are awake. sometimes your sleepy lids open just a bit to unveil the green of your eyes beneath them. your lips lie parted, leaving room for rushes of warm air to move in and out. these mornings, when i adjust to feel your arms tighten around my waist, i feel complete. vulnerable in the way sleep creates, i am trusting of your safety, your body my security blanket as we fall unconscious to the feet of dreams.
