His heart stained the floor a dull red,
While his breaths escaped under his bed.
Valiantly he fought the war but wound up dead,
Although the war was only inside his head.
Swords clashed; dragons spit fire.
Thousands of bodies waited at the funeral pyre.
Trying to escape, the fairies flew higher,
But inevitably their wings would tire.
The princess finally fell at his feet,
And the citizens uttered words of defeat.
How could one boy save them all?

Reality was a nightmare,
But this other world was a dream,
Going up in flames, slipping away.
He fought, but the enemy would not sway.
It was an equal match;
If he threw, the enemy could catch.
Could this war go on forever?
The saddest part is he never,
Ever,
Learned why he was fighting.

The enemy was vicious, horrible, horrendous,
But was the enemy not exactly like him?
Did they not both murder, justify?
It was all a creation of his mind,
The world, the war, the fairies.
It was fantasy but reality nonetheless.
None of his peers expected,
And his parents didn’t think to check,
But as his heart beat for the last time,
As his body gave its fatal sign,
The enemy died.
