Valentine
Your bronze hair is tied back in a loose bun,
strands falling down to tickle
your pale neck.
Down the side
of a forgotten plastic pint
a river of strawberry gelato crawls,
as sweet as your smile.
Put on a cheesy rom-com,
don’t be afraid to cry when
the girl finally realizes what she wants
and has that perfect cinematic kiss.
Blast some Queen from those
shoddy laptop speakers,
sing every word as if
Freddie Mercury is dancing right beside you.
Ignore the streamers,
the overused cliches,
on this day of love,
don’t forget to love yourself.
