Turnips

It’s dinner time and I’m ready to eat, my momma said, “Boy, get on your feet!”
“You gotta get up and serve yourself, cuz one of these days I won’t be here to help.”
Off the couch and into the kitchen, I look into the pot to see what she be fixin’.
There it was, I didn’t know what. I said, “Hey momma, can this go in my gut?”
She yelled, “Just eat it! I’ll tell you when you’re done. You’ll like it! And have a whole lotta fun.”
I put it in my mouth and thought it was a tater, but I knew it wasn’t when I crapped it out later.
