Trying To Explain My Depression To My Mother

"Mom, my depression is taking over my life."

She asks me, "Where did depression come from?"

I tell her, "It's my dormant friend inside my head that never leaves."

She tells me, "You should go out to parties, then your 'friend' would go away."

I say, "No, because Depression invites Anxiety to the 'party' and it just makes everything worse."

She yells, "Where did anxiety come from?!"

I'm crying when I yell back, "I don't know! It's always been there!"
