Truth in the Mirror

Can’t trust the face in the mirror.
I’ve done my part to prop up this grand façade but the truth’s becoming clearer.
Life’s a stage, I’m just one actress
In a play where we play our parts perfectly so no one knows the sins we could confess.

No one really looks in a mirror anymore
Because we mask the truth but we’re unsure what it needs to be hidden for.
No one here cares enough to look each other in the eyes.
Instead we continue hiding ourselves in our clever webs of lies.

Let go of our ambition, doubts, pride, and fears.
Let us just get over and past these last bitter years.
We’ve simply grown apart or had a change of heart.
There’s no way to fix the problem we created and if there was, where would we start?

Superstition prevents us from shattering the mirror
And, as much as we’ve tried to run from it, our reflections only come nearer.
We’re disgusted by ourselves and too ashamed to seek help.
Now we’ve disappointed everyone and no one’s cared to ask how we’ve felt.

We can’t trust our faces in the mirror.
We’ve done our parts to prop up this grand façade but the truth’s becoming clearer.
Life’s a stage, we’re each an actor or actress
In a play where we play our parts perfectly so no one knows the sins we could confess.
