truth and lies

hey darling, darling

you say we’re the sun and the moon

evil and good

fire and ice

but darling, darling

what’s this tied between us

not frozen not burned?

sweetheart, dearheart,

our crayon box doesn’t just come with black and white,

view the red and green

orange and blue

yellow and purple

stuck under my fingernails

blending into our skin.

when we put our hands together

they don’t touch

but our atoms are fizzling together,

the electrons swerving and dancing

spinning and twirling

charging and retreating.

hey darling, darling

hey darling, darling

hey darling, darling

you say that we’re polar ends

but opposites attract.

hey darling, darling

you say I’m light, you’re dark

but observe

the irises of your eyes

the pupils of mine

when we lock gazes.

hey darling, darling

this tied between us

not frozen not burned

not blown away or buried

when your hand and my hand, juxtaposed,

touch

it is stronger than the world

darling, darling believe me
