Treehouse

I saw our treehouse yesterday.

It was strange seeing it in a state like this.

The wood is crumbling, the glass broken, water leaking.

I remember when we were young

This was our castle, our cave,

Our hideout to gaze up at the stars,

And dream.

Now it’s haunted with ghosts of the dreams

that never came true.

The dreams that vanished with you that warm summer night.

It’s become a wasteland, a junkyard.

But it’s still the place we used to love.

I’m giving it to my daughter

So she may laugh, and hide,

And dream

I hope you don’t mind.
