They walked and walked and walked. With bruised feet, they walked. With bruised souls, they walked. With bruised hearts, they walked. They walked with the shatters and debris of their broken dreams in tow. Though their ankles were rendered immobilized by the harassing shackles of their op posers, they walked instead of remaining stagnant because they knew they were walking for something much bigger than themselves. These trailblazing African-Americans stood against the racial tide of Caucasians who desired nothing more than to keep the vices of those shackles on their feet. Not only they stood, they sat. They sat in public places where they were prohibited from socializing with the "superior race". They called it "sit-ins." We went from sitting to walking to marching all the way to the House whose color resented our own. This fateful march gave way to thousands of black feet canvasing the streets of Washington D.C. with a visionary who declared he had a "dream". It was that same dream that inspired the Mount Rushmore of Civil Rights spear headers, Martin Luther King, Emmit Till, Malcolm X, and Rosa Park, to turn this dream into fruition. In 1965, it did. The Civil Rights Act of 1965 was signed by Lyndon Banes Johnson. Now, African-Americans every where can shout emphatically in unison, "Free at Last". They walked and walked and walked. With bruised feet, they walked. With bruised morality, they walked. With bruised hearts, they walked. They walked with the shatters and debris of broken dreams in tow. But they put together the fragmented pieces for the sake of creating a window for African-Americans to observe this vast land of equality through. Some call it fortitude. Others call it the Civil Rights Movement
