I am from rural Poland comfort
Ended one October day
Last view of pastures and their grazers
After 6 years of childhood
All familiarity ended by a flight
9 hours 4,500 anxious miles
New setting introduced by Chicago family
I am from a new lifestyle
From tending fields in summer heat
To 8 hours and overtime indoors
From hearing Polish all around
To hearing it from few
I am from village safety
Removed by urban dangers
I am from a different culture
With a challenge
Adapt but stay true
Settle into a new home
But remember the first one
This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
