Tough Love

A mother-daughter relationship is tumultuous territory. There are the “Why’d you get a D?” problems and “Don’t call me that!” problems. “Where have you been?” problems and “Don’t make me ask again..” problems.

Then there’s the “Don’t you dare take that,” retorts and the “Leave me alone!” counter. The “I can’t wait to leave,” response,
and the resounding retaliation,
“I hate you.”

But there are the good times too; the “Thank you for all you do,” times and “You look nice today” times. The rare, “Wanna do something together?” times and the, “I don’t know what I’d do without you,” times.

Motherhood is hard, but daughterhood is harder. Unconditional love is extraordinary, but mostly it’s tough.
