As Time Goes On

As time goes on,

And we drift apart,

You will always have that place in my heart.

We didn’t end as enemies,

But will forevermore,

Be nothing like,

We were before.

I miss the way you held my hand

The things you asked, never a demand.

I saw you,

Day after day,

It never got old,

You never seemed to stray.

But good things always seem

To come to an end,

Like a dirty little scheme.

Your life continues,

You move on,

Everything becomes foregone.

As much as I miss you

And as much as the love I showed was true,

I know I won’t ever get that back.

I won’t ever be able to smile at you,

The way I could before we were through.

And I tell myself I’ll be okay,

It’s life, you move on, and live the next day.

But I know it kills me,

I want to make you see,

See the things you left behind.

See the things that you could still have.

But I guess to that, you are blind.

I will still love you,

But I’m strong, I’ll get through.

Life goes on,

People live,

Some are poor, some are rich,

What can I say, life’s a bitch
