The Time Came

The time came…

when our eyes no longer smiled,

as we did at Table 26.

Nor as we laughed…

when the rain called us to flee

and melt a kiss against a tree.

No longer did we dance…

as one as we did at Bice.

No longer did we turn in bed…

    to give our love.

We came together with passion ablaze,

    a time ago.

But the time came…

when our souls couldn’t feel our kiss.

You were the poet of my heart.

But the time came

    for us to part:

      Slowly

      Silently

      Secretly

Leaving us empty:

      Unknowingly

      Untrustingly

The time came…

      for leaving.

And the sea we once knew said of us:

    "They loved one day…

           the tide came in…

           the tide went out…”

I did love you

Believe that…
