Ever since I can remember, I have been opposed to the wars in Iraq/Afghanistan, but have always kept in mind the soliders who come back haunted by the horrors they had to face. I came across the term "The Thousand Yard Stare" after watching a documentary about the mental health members of the armed forces experience upon their return home. As someone who suffers from bipolar disorder, I realized how truly traumatic life experiences can be, but can't even imagine how mentally scarring battle and war can be. While I will never agree with war, my support will always be with the troops and how they sacrifice not only their physical well-being, but their mental well-being in the process. This is something I am very passionate about.
