The Things Not Said

“Can we be friends?” he asked.

“Sure.” She lied.

(I just wanted more…)

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“I’m fine.” She lied.

(I’m dying on the inside…)

“I’m always here for you.” He said.

“Yeah.” She replied.

(No you won’t, I’ve been through this before…)

“Please don’t be mad at me.” he said.

“I’m not.” She lied.

(I’m mad at myself for falling for you…)

“I love you.” He lied.

She shrugged.

(If you truly loved me, you wouldn’t want to be just friends…)

“This isn’t goodbye. See you later.” He said.

“I love you.” She whispered.

(And now I hate that I mean it…)
