They Were the Buffalo

The herds,

Roaming free,

Millions of black dots,

Inhabiting the west,

-Bang-

The fatal crack of a gun,

One falls then begins,

Domino effect,

Once sacred to the Natives,

Now game for the whites,

Taken for granted,

Wasted,

Eight thousand gone before sunset,

They ruled at thirty million,

They struggled at eighty-five,

They were the buffalo.
