These Stars

farther away
than one can imagine
dotting the sky
in a blanket
of comfort and insignificance
these stars
they watch us
and they see us
as we really are

the poverty
the broken-hearted children
the scars that mark the faces
like mountains and valleys on this earth
these stars
they see us
as we really are

the mysteries
and adventures
the laughter that rings louder
than the calls for help
the love for one another that
is such a difficult thing to explain
these stars
they see us
as we really are
