the Teen years

Teen

A word that holds so much

for those who know so little

It's finally time to be

who you always dreamed of

take a breath

count to thirteen

and

leap

into the Teen years

Like a crystal clear pool

you can see the beauty from

above

but not know what is

below

Cold

cold water

Cold

cold shoulders

Cold

and when you finally warm up

you take a lap

or two

or seven

 where you find new friends

you find yourself

you find feelings you've never had before

you realize that you're now a pro

and then

suddenly

as all circles go

you find yourself

back at the beginning

back at the start

but wiser

Teen

a word that held so much

so much

but you're wiser now

bigger now

better now

and as you surface

say "twenty"

you step out of the pool

cold

wrap a towel around yourself

wise

and you go back into the world

where the Teen years are

no more

leaving you with

an experience

you will never forget
