Will I be taught about the erased history

Of the blood spill of racial oppression?

The native, slave, Chinese, Irish story.

Erased by the whites without redemption

Born in San Diego, I am Mexican.

Seen treated, mistreated as one of them.

If your don’t believe me just ask the Klan.

But proud to be Mexicano I am.

Teach me about people that look like me

Teach me Native American poems,

To help end racism, do not make me plea.

For freedom, knowledge and truth are the stems.

Maybe after this sonnet teach me, yes?

Because my life is not a game, like chess.
