Sunset Burns

Once in awhile
I'll walk the street-
dream of dancing memories.
Watch the crimson red sky burn to dark
and stars.

I'll think of who I am and where I've been,
sweet lavender and bitter asphalt grays
And then I see the sunset burns,
where my life has flickered and burned,
across my skin there are flecks--
of red.

Then the indigo drops come and fall,
sliding down in silver waterfalls
down the sunset burns-the burns
that now color my skin, reflect in my eyes
the flame within

And I see the broken yellow lines on this asphalt life
fade into an amber sky, with flaming red and gold eyes
I walk this road of dust and sigh
the girl with the sunset burns---
of life.
