Summer Memories

I miss the way the summer air filled my lungs.
I miss the way the water felt against my skin.
I miss the way the earth smelled in the heat.
I miss the way our fingers intertwined.

I know that when this winter ends, I'll breathe the summer air,
And think of nothing but you.

The way your skin felt against my palm.

I blame you for every day after this.
I blame you for these memories that won't let me sleep.
I blame you for the beautiful wreckage.
But I wouldn't have it any other way.

So when I hear the crickets call me, I'll walk the grass.
And think of nothing but you.

Think of nothing but the way the summer started.
Think of nothing but nightswimming, telling stories.
Think of nothing but how much I adored you.
Think of nothing but how the day the air turned colder...
So did you.

I'll remember how much the summer has burned me.
Cause each boy is more bitter than the last.
No kisses, but hugs so deep they bruise me.
How did your touches fade away so fast?

When the full summer moon rises on a hot, dark night.

I'll think of nothing but you.
The way you wrapped around me.

And how you say I'm your only friend.
