Summer Ghost

This isn't about him,
I promise.
As roses scattered to ashes,
I can only hope he's crying too.
That he's thinking
We shouldn't be through.

I scold myself,
Stop dragging it out.

I've spent too long in the dark,
And taken double the dose.
I wait,
Love I wait,
For your summer ghost.

To haunt me,
Like it had,
A while ago.

When I hadn't been afraid,
When you stood at my window.

Stop dragging it out.

Torn and broke down,
I wait for you to come,
Show up at my door,
I promise I won't lock it.
But your face is not a memory
Like it was the day before.

Down at the graveyard,
I've seen this is war.

I'd like to fight,
But I surrender.
Your face,
Still in my mind.
I'm not a quitter,
But I give up sometimes.

I've taken double the dose
And I wait,
Love I wait,
For your summer ghost,

To haunt me like before,
Standing suit and tie,
Waiting at my door.

I invited over death,
He stayed a night,
But nothing more.

All things come to end
I cannot make it better,
I cannot play pretend.

Sky melted gray,
I opened my mouth,
There was nothing to say.

I took double the dose,
I wait,
Love I wait,
For your summer ghost,
To show up again,
To dream with me again,
To sleep in the summer sand,

To love me like you did,
When summer first began.

I wait, love,
I wait for you
To tell me not to go.
Please say you hear me,
Say you'll be there.

Say you know.
