Stunted Success: The Things Schools Doesn't Prepare You For
High school is meant to prepare teenagers for the real world.
So where is the REAL transition?
We are no longer young adults. WE are only older versions of children.
School is just a big daycare.
Day in and day out we question, "Why do we need to know this?"
There's no motivation to learn. There's no incentive.
Where are those lessons that make students reflect on their future?
The lessons that make students feel confident enough to know that they DO have a future,
Are the ones that educators fail to teach us.
Ask a high school graduate, "What is a mortgage?"
Some may know, but others merely brush off the question, looking past its importance and simply reply,
"I 'ont know."
High school kids are hopeless and even worse: helpless.
We are always told "Get good grades, go to college, have a great career, and you'll be successful."
Well what about those other important factors like bills, social skills, being able to live off a basic 9 to 5 job?
We are always given the same options, and college is not for everyone.
We are always told that you are not successful unless you attend college.
But what about those who are not able to attend college under any circumstances?
Should they just give up on their optimistic view of life?
Educators must understand that they need to live up to what they promise us.
They need to take the time out to TRULY prepare us for the real world.
Stop throwing these young adults out into the world, ignorant to what it holds.
We are crying out for help, great leaders are unguided and led to the wrong path.
Give us the knowledge we will need to survive in the real world.
Don't restrain us from learning.
