Strength through adversity

Struggling, hungry, abandoned, lonely.
Are these words I identify with? Yes
Who am I?
I am your elderly parent left abused and molested, to die in foster care
Told them that they were too old to work, with no use left in their aging body
I am that animal that you didn’t like enough at the shelter
Looking scruffy with my owner abusing me as will euthanasia
I am that homeless guy you tell to get a job as you walk to your fruitless corporate cubicle
Perhaps he was like you, but you judge without empathy
I am that dirty child in the classroom who you assume will amount to nothing
So instead of fostering learning, you ignore me
Finally, I am that girl, the one who grew up with nothing given
The one who is fighting tooth and nail to swim through the statistics that are against her
I am the one drowning in debt to get somewhere only imaginable in far off dreams
Through pain, I am the one with rose colored glasses
And I am the one with hope for the future
So Hope, strength, empowerment, motivation.
Are these words I identify with?
Yes.
