Stop!

Stop and take a look at your daughter,
Has she not done everything you wanted, so why don’t you support her?
Degrade her, mistake her for someone isn’t the person she “was supposed to be”
Are you looking at me? And also judging me?
Because I love her with all my heart?
Does it matter that I have degrees and money, does it matter that I have a good heart? Does it matter that I’m smart?
Do you see that? Do you see the independence your daughter has gained?
Our does her “choice” of lifestyle put it all to shame?
Do you even remember my name? Her love, her lover, her life…
Would you come to our wedding if I were to be her wife..?
Stop and take a look at your daughter,
Has she not done everything you dreamed of, so why don’t you support her?
She kept her life in order, stayed away from drugs,
Wasn’t too fond of affection so I had to teach her how to hug,
How to love, lost, confused and alone she used to be,
Does it matter that I got her out of that? Does it matter? Yeah, I took the time out, it was me…
Can you see that? Or are you ignorant to the way her eyes drain when you walk in the door…
Did you even notice when she stopped calling or wasn’t staying home anymore?
Does it matter that you made her feel like she shouldn’t love the flesh she was in..
Because she was attracted to women then to be attracted to men..
Does it matter that my baby doesn’t like to wear a dress,
Does it matter? No, because my baby can still dress…
Can you stop trying to put her lifestyle to shame,
Can you stop thinking you’re the cause of this, it’s you to blame,
Stop it and take a look at your daughter,
She’s the same person, in the same skin, you birthed her, so why don’t you support her?
