It seems like only yesterday

They called to say you were gone

I couldn’t think of a thing to say

I thought it was a con

I watched mom faint

And heard dad cry out

You weren’t a saint,

But your heart was kind throughout

I laid my head on your chest

And reminded you: you are loved

And when they laid you to rest

I cursed the sky above

I miss your smile

Just one infectious piece of you

Nothing about you was hostile

You were as sweet as the sky is blue

Now when I feel alone

All I think of is you

I feel your loss down to the bone

The crater in my heart is huge

This poem is about:
My family
My community
Our world
