Spills

Two thousand sixteen

In words

2016

In numbers

Black Hell

In synonym

As the days pass by

The acceptance of spilled black blood gets no easier

As the months fall away

The fear for my life gets no weaker

Struggling to proceed to the cloud of criticism

I am forced to look past the threat of fear

Forced to accept the whips upon my soul

Forced to ignore the screams of agony from my brothers and sisters

The bolt of judgement strikes us with the excitement of hate

Used to seeing the expressions of disgust and despair

Can you see past your privilege ?

Can I survive past my suffers ?

Philando Castile

Alton Sterling

Terence Crutcher

Keith Scott

Korryn Gains

And many others

Can I sell CD’s ?

Can I reach for my wallet ?

Do I even matter ?

Scooting towards 2017

Reaching for a new day

Searching for a new opportunity

To prove my worth

To earn my respect

Past my skin color

Knowing it’s time

To break the chains of discrimination

Knowing the new year is still young

And my heart is still hungry for success

No one can stop me now

Because

I have so much more to conquer

As a black girl
