Snap Judgements

Once upon a time

Words intended to be benign

Hurt like eyes being stung with brine

They left her vulnerable, susceptible to hurt

Yet they walked away, not knowing they changed her heart.

Judgments were passed on the girl they did not know

Who would have know they left her feeling so low

Maybe their view of her would have changed

If they knew the things that kept her in chains

Yet through the fire and the rain, this girl overcame.

She knew of the good, and the bad in this world

The crucible moment inside of her stirred

Like the faint song of a mockingbird

For the tongue is a fire, waiting to rage

And the mind a book, thoughts scattered across a page.

Keep them pure, and see the prosperity

For we were all meant to live in equality.
