Silence

You sway slightly Over the shiny black box
The ivory rectangles
Fall lightly
Under your fingertips

You close your eyes
Feeling each note
Flowing into the air
Like syrup
Melting through my ears
Sweet as honey

Pouring feelings through wavelengths
Each note,
Pure as the last,
Pierce the air

Then your voice,
Low like thunder
And dark as storm clouds,
Echoes in the room

You hum to warm up
Then start to sing
Like angels floating through the doors,
The room is suddenly filled
With glorious sound
And golden feelings

You almost start another line
But stop yourself when you see me
Watching from the doorway
Entranced by the sound
Forgetting you wanted to be alone

You turn back
And I watch your fingers
Lightly graze the keys
But the music no longer plays
You seem to feel the notes
The emotion in the song
But the sound is nonexistent

I hush my thoughts
So I don't bother you
I choose flight
Instead of fight
To simply avoid
Confrontation

I'm sorry if I ruined the song
You had been growing
The tiny seeds you had sown
I'll just leave
I'm sorry
It seems
The music dies
Whenever I'm around

Before I go, though,
Remember
Sometimes the silence
Is more powerful
Than the noise
