Is she me?

Location

As I walk in she calls to me

she notices my shirt and the white letters upon it

they read "class of 2015"

she announces that was her school so many years ago

I blew her off and proceeded to the table in the corner

she was sitting alone, at first I thought it was strange

then I looked around, there were 3 people sitting alone

the older woman, a teenager, and...me

the waitress arrives to my table as the teenager walks away

now only two remain

I glance over to the elderly woman

she is saying something, but I can't hear her

Her lips are moving but nothing comes out

what is she saying?

I bring my hands to my face

and notice how worn they look

I think to myself "Is this what my life has come to?"

empty tables, blank walls, and a window?

Alone,.. that's my biggest fear

no one besides yourself, a void of nothingness

all your thoughts slowly become white noise

colors fade, light dims

suddenly you talk to the ceiling as if someone from above is listening

the woman sitting at the bar..is she me?

Reaching out for anyone to talk to, anyone to listen

she seemed so happy when I walked in and I blew her off...

As I finish my meal I get up and try to think of something to say

I tap her on the shoulder and shake her hand and say "It was a pleasure meeting you, truly."

as I push open the door she greets a man that walks in

as I walk past the window I looked out of minutes ago

all I see is my reflection

it's dark and I can't see where I sat in the resturant

just my reflection

as I sit in my car I wish I would have done more

I could have invited her to sit with me, or I could have sat with her

I could have made her day

before I left she asked me my name

"Brooke", I answered

she said she always loved that name

but as I sat in my car I resented my name

I couldn't live up to the name or change time...

so I drove away.
