A shadow still there

You were the life of the party, my friend.
I can’t believe it has come to this unexpected end.
There’s no denying you are a precious gem.
Seeing you every day, I still have to pretend.
When I walk alone, I check to see if you’re here.
I look back and I wish I could see that stare.
Sometimes I hear your voice ever so clear.
As I sleep, I feel as if you were always there.
Your hands on my shoulder to ease the pain.
I only wish that things were always the same.
I know you are crying when I feel it rain.
Still staring at it through the wooden frames.
Those laughs we had when we were together.
When I feel your presence, I’m even sadder.
You made the climb up that long ladder.
You’re peaceful now, is all that matters.
