Set the Table

Our table isn’t set for two

you lost me and I lost you

there are splinters in my wrist

for the night we could’ve kissed

can you feel me slip away

I just couldn’t take another day

so I’m sorry I left

but there’s a letter on a desk

with your name

we would never be on the same

page

and it filled me with a quiet rage

that wasn’t close to poetic

and now I feel pathetic

so I had to leave

before you could make me believe

in those eyes again

we were always meant to end

but maybe you didn’t expect it to be like this

that’s okay, you took a risk

but I’ve gambled my heart

and it’s been torn apart

every fucking time,

and you would never have been mine.
