Self-Reliance
Lost in a dark forest
light is seemingly out of reach
Twists, turns, and stumbles
staying down is easy
A hand reaches out
then more and more
You grab hold
One step at a time
you continue to walk
Out of the forest at last
you see nothing
your tired mind aches
and your weary bones protest
Reminded of those dark days
you search and hope
but no hands reach out
Where to go you do not know
but through uncertainty you take one step
then another and continue forward slowly
When a path begins to reveal itself
you realize at last you must do some things alone
This is self-reliance
