Scholar of Mine

You took me to Guadalajara,

You took me to the burgraves,

And I left while the going got good,

It was you, the Matterhorn.

Who froze me in your blue peaks,

And it was you, the great reefs.

Who blanketed me in that shroud of bones and debris,

It is true I took only what I could carry,

What I could bear bearing,

And I will not deny I laid with uncomfortable figures,

And schemed with taller demons,

But what use was it to you,

To know these vapid tales,

To figure the noose around my neck,

Listen to the common people banging their drums and playing their jazz,

But what use is the sound of music,

When overcome with the trample of horses hooves,

You will see no great reward for thy study,

And you will travel depths no one else will follow,

Soon you will forget even why you began asking questions.
