Scenery

Dust me off and take me for a spin

I begin to feel you here again

Maybe I will cross your mind when autumn comes

Or just become a face of places you are from

Like a frozen tableau on a stage long ago

You’re here in the limelight that torrents my mind

Take my arm or take my words for naught

You might have gone but I have not forgot

Apply the pressure to the healing wound

Lest you dare forget the aching Tin Man sound

Like a frozen tableau on a stage long ago

You’re here in the limelight that torrents my mind

The roads we take entwine yet I can see

Your headlights seem to point away from me

My gold-leaf compass I no longer trust

Now salted tears cause each direction turn to rust

Like a frozen tableau on a stage long ago

You’re here in the limelight that torrents my mind

Oh I’m still keeping time

Waiting for a sublime

Syncopation to rhyme

With the clock in my mind

Oh I’m still on the mend

Waiting for a new end

To this loneliness trend

That I’ve yet to condemn

Like a melting tableau on a stage long ago

You’re fading behind that old scrim in my mind
