On the Ruins of Human Failure

I sit alone
on the ruins of human failure.
On a stone
made of the promises broken.
Feet underneath me,
to stand would be impossible.

I weep softly
on the ruins of human failure.
My pride banished
with the shimmer of mortal success.
My smile vanished:
I can’t even remember how.

This life is hard,
but look at me! I’m lifted up.
Now I’m kneeling
on the ruins of human failure.
And I’m needing
the One bright and shining Savior.
