Rise

Location

2204 Truman St.
United States

The fulgent naked stars

pore over me;

down they stare

from beneath their nebulous blankets

in the early hours of the morning

when all the world is asleep--

all but them and me.

I meet their endless gazes

from beneath my own blanket,

but soon

am drawn up and away

by their unblinking reverie,

and the awareness of the fledgling dawn

which greets these billions of spectators

and me.

As the stars close their eyes,

I open mine

to the steaming cup of coffee

and that auroral future--

that rise to power,

realization of dreams, and

the fruit of my efforts--

lingering

at the horizon, and

waking

with the dawn.

As the sun rises,

today is the start of my future.

As the sun rises,

so

do

I.
