Riot

Sat, 12/02/2017 - 19:06 -- ebrooke

i called.

as i listened to my phone ring-

going once, going twice-

it stopped; my heart did, too.

for a moment,

i thought you had answered.

but then, oh, but then, there goes the ringer,

once more.

half of me wanted you to answer.

the other half, you may ask?

it was somewhere, curled in fear,

anxious that your voice would open up the dam of all the concealed emotions.

i called.

as i listened to my phone ring-

one ring, two, now three-

my heart burst when your voice was not there.

torn in two halves,

one craving,

one avoiding,

a riot killed my heart.
