Reflections of Your Typical High School Student

Location

Traps entangle the young soldiers’ feet.

They march carefully forward,

Hoping to avoid being caught in the scheme.

The trenches of which they follow,

Are the source of the younger generation’s,

Impending, almost inevitable doom.

This is a battle.

And one where only the superior,

Are given swords worthy of combat.

More casualties than the Great War,

Some are killed, all are wounded,

With memories that haunt for a lifetime.

A civil war without an end,

The regiments have been known to turn,

Treason becomes more deadly than the plague.

Technology is advancing,

Their swords have become obsolete,

Making this battle, even more one-sided.

Shell shock is the reward for survival.

After four long years of torment,

Most have no choice but to be redeployed.

Each generation has more scars than the last.

And whether or not a soldier succeeds,

Depends on how well they fought in the war.
