Reading the fortune

Our life is not dtermined by our imagination

It's determined by the social conformities past generations decided would work when they were already obsolete

Told, do as I say not as I do

But monkey see monkey do

And I know the closest thing that I can do to try to gain the respect I always wanted from you

Was to stay silent

Be a good girl

Only speak when told

Learn from your mom but never be like your dad

Now 18 years later I could of been under this idea that being me meant to be surpressed

To let my voice hide behind the broken eyes

To be complient and only do what may eventually get a guy

Our deeds determine us, as much as we determine our deeds

When I was 14 and stopped wrestling cuz it was improper of me

When I was 15 and learned that

Not everyone's touch can be clean

When I was 16 and stayed silent while my friend was bullied

When I was 17 and told I needed a man to be complete

We have learned that being female is not a right, but a privelage

Balanced on a man's self-esteem

That our thoughts aren't our own and will be better if testosterone pumped through everything

We were taught to obey our elders, where the past was meant to stay there and would keep us stagnent and never changing

We were taught but we were never meant to out grow those rebellious teenage years

Our life is not determined by our imagination

But our imagination is determined by the life we lead
