pretty pink dress

My mother always said she liked that dress.

She said I looked pretty in pink.

I don’t really like pink,

Or dresses,

Or hair,

Or my smile,

Or my body.

I don’t actually feel pretty,

and I don't really like myself.

But I’ll wear that pink dress and straighten my hair.

I’ll smile for the pictures,

I will do my best.

I know I’ve been the problem,

And I promised it wouldn’t last.
