Predetermined Scenes

A predetermined gathering

One in heaven, the other earth

Many voices answering

Great noises call forth

He is there in both places

Different times foredecided

Before Him many races

Unanimous motives collided

The first scene light, the other dark

The first His comfort, the other His pain

Note the contrast ever stark

A King enthroned, a Lamb slain

Sitting here, upright there

Ruling here, suffering there

Worshipped here, hated there

Crown of glory here, thorns there

With the Father here, forsaken there

Exalted here, enduring there

Glorious here, humbled there

Disciples here, none there

No lack here, thirsting there

Eternal here, temporarily there

Living here, dying there

Clothed here, naked there

Reigning over the forgiven here, bearing the sin of the forgiven there

Trusted here, dying there

Son of David here, Suffering Servant there

A predetermined gathering

One in heaven, the other earth

Many voices answering

Great noises call forth

Both placed by the Father

In obedience, he came

The pierced lamb and the alter

Unique roles all the same

In light of both, Saints united

The first to reign, the second to die

Prophesied and foredecided

The lifegiving King exalted high
