Praying Mantis
I’m sorry
You fell from the roof onto the concrete at my feet
And into my life
You were so beautiful
The color that leaves would be if they were perfect
A miracle of nature, of course
But your wing was bent and you barely moved
And it hurt to know that you hurt
You would die a slow painful lonely death
If I left you there
I couldn’t move you without hurting you more
And I almost cried
You were so beautiful
So you became a green smear
Staining the concrete under my feet
I’m sorry
