To me, poetry is an expression

An expression of various senses

What you see, hear, smell, taste and feel

You see reality, the true forms of people and things

You hear the many sounds and voices, in order to understand 

You smell and think, why does it smell the way it does?

You taste not only food and drink, but also victory and defeat

You feel in many ways, physically, mentally, and emotionally 

Poetry is an expression, your expression

Of what your eyes see

Of what your ears hear

Of what your nose smells

Of what your tounge tastes

And of what your heart feels

Poetry is words put together

They can be meaningful, they can be simple

As long as they are original

As long as they come from you
