The Power of Imagination

There’s one thing in the world I need

Much more than any other

My broad imagination

With all its sights, smells, and colors

In it resides a thousand worlds

To explore at my endless leisure

Any emotion at my disposal

The harshest pain or grandest pleasure

Some children need television

Just to keep their fleeting focus

When there’s an infinite realm inside their minds

That they don’t take time to notice

But when I was young, I clung to it

And on it, I’m now dependent

So I use my paper and my pen

And turn my thoughts into a talent

By the time the sun has risen at dawn

My mind is up at work

Spinning out notions a mile a minute

Creating a new universe

My imagination may not challenge that

Of Shakespeare, Twain, or Chaucer

But I still need it, every day

Because it turned me into an author…
