A Pause in Time

Location

Midnight colors swirl through my head

And life slows down its beat.

One, then two, then three and four

Going on through eternity.

A pause in time

Where a fleeting standstill is filled with song

A song to make the brightness fade

To numb the senses, to forget.

Little spots of color, bright and pale.

All with a place, a home, a need

To cloak the inevitable as a gift.

Notes flow in and blanket dreary thoughts

Saying, “This won’t matter. That will always stay the same.”

Disguising assignments and homework and more

Then the final note dies away.

And life goes on.
