Paterson Streets

I hate walking down these Paterson streets
I feel like I can never be free to be me
I have a fear of the next person I may meet.
But I'm young, I'm a teen- I wish I could say hi, do a meet and greet.
But I have a fear of who that person just may be.
I hate walking down these Paterson streets
I feel like those eyes are entrapping me
That every man see's me as only one thing
I wish a hi really meant hi, but in Paterson it doesn't-
So I just say goodbye.
I hate walking down these Paterson streets
Everyone judging me before we meet.
People thinking they know me because of where I "be"
But I'm no where- not here. I'm wishing I was somewhere-anywhere
Because I hate walking down these Paterson streets
Fearing, hiding, afraid to be me.
