Life exists before we do

And before life exists the Earth

And even before the Earth there is more, much much more

More than any person or animal can comprehend

In all of it, there is a lesson

From birth to afterlife we stare

But not at what's in front of us

Rather we look behind

Behind our daily lives

And into that of those that came before

We are all here

Following the words of those

Who are behind

For they are wise beyond our years

Despite their long gone presence

So I too follow those behind

I listen to their every word

And when I'm faced with difficulty

I listen harder

For all they say must have a deeper meaning
