They told me I couldn’t write— gave me “C”s and “D”s. Just another unapplied youth walking down this boulevard of broken dreams. Babies scream for lack of food so these mothers never sleep. Stare at the moon like “What’s the use?” My poems rarely get this deep. I’m pulling out these words, each syllable is a part of me that I’m not sure I should let you see, but the risk is worth the downside. So close your eyes and walk with me. The graffiti on the walls will tell you where you shouldn’t be. Never mind the constitution, here we live with a different creed. Ask the teachers about expectations and you’ll soon find out why so many say, “College is not for me.” Big Tony was bangin’ since 5th grade, but who am I to judge? We’re all chasing our destinies. Sometimes I wish I could change for them, but God guides who God wills and that guidance is never free. Overcoming these dispositions has taken every ounce of me. My blood, stress, and years have been dedicated to overcoming successful fears because when so many say you can’t those words remain ringing throughout your ears…

I've heard "boulevard of broken dreams" before. :) Great song. I suppose the saying is true, literature repeats itslef.

That was amazing I love everything about this poem.
A wonderful piece we can all relate to. Growing up with goals in life is hard but life is hard. My favorite line was ,"Overcoming these dispositions has taken every ounce of me." because the world will push you. The bubble we grow up in as a child pops when nature takes it's course and we grow stronger. Good luck on your journey. Your poetry is insightful!
